Foundation well on its way to Success

November 2007 - The Greater Round Rock Community Foundation is well on its way to success after its inception only three years ago

The newest fund is for the Operation Giving Tree project. It will provide funding to create a Christmas tree out of thousands of light strings on the old Round Rock water tower downtown.

The Children of Fallen Soldiers Fund was created to help cover college costs such as books, meals and room and board for the children of those lost in the War on Terror and has raised over $10,000.

Two giving circles have been formed: The Leading Ladies and the Future Fund. The members of these circles make a contribution to the fund and then the group collectively decides how to donate those funds. The Leading Ladies raised $24,000 in its first year and made grants to the Round Rock Area Serving Center, Hope Alliance and Capital IDEA. The Future Fund raised $15,000 and gifted it all to the Lone Star Circle of Care.

The Cris Love Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund provides college tuition to graduating students of Round Rock High School. Three young scholars were chosen to receive $1000 each this past year. MeLynda and Cris Love Sr. set up the fund with $10,000 from proceeds of a benefit golf tournament in honor of their son, Cris Love Jr. who they lost to cancer in 2005. The fund grew to over $50,000 in one year due to the generous contributions of various donors wanting to show their support. The Loves have plans of growing the fund to $100,000 at which time they will permanently endow it in honor of their son.

Other funds include Hands on Housing and the Crossing. Hands on Housing provides funding to repair homes for the elderly, low-income and the disabled while the Crossing raises funds for improvements to the Crossing park at 620 and Chisholm Trail.

Anyone can contribute to these funds at any time.

The Greater Round Rock Community Foundation is a tax-exempt public charity created by and for the people of Round Rock. It enables people with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support the issues they care about-immediately, or through their will. Donors can establish a charitable fund at the foundation by contributing a variety of assets and may also recommend grants-in their name, if they choose-to causes they want to support.
