Knights of Columbus and Leading Ladies Giving Circle partner to donate $10,000 to Round Rock Area Serving Center

June 2007 - Leading Ladies Giving Circle makes first grant of $5000, $20,000 more still "in the coffers".

The Leading Ladies, a giving circle sponsored by the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation, have made their first grant of $5000 to the Round Rock Area Serving Center. The grant was offered in answer to a challenge by the Knights of Columbus of St. John VianneyWilliams Catholic Church.

The Knights host an annual golf tournament with proceeds going to local charities. They raised over 15,000 this year and plan to donate $5,000 of it to the Serving Center, which serves as the local food pantry. Because of the matching grant, the food pantry is receiving a total ofan additional $10,000.

Bruce Bessner, the tournament's co-organizer, is a past member of the Serving Center board, a current member of the Community Foundation board and a member of the Knights of Columbus and worked with all three groups to facilitate the gift.

The Leading Ladies Giving Circle has raised almost $25,000 to be distributed to local charitable causes this year.  The Ladies were pleased and excited to be able to make such an impact with this, their first grant.

The Greater Round Rock Community Foundation's mission includes "inspiring philanthropic giving". The giving circle was introduced this past year towards that goal and has proven to be an innovative and easy way for busy, yet concerned women of the community to give back. The Foundation defines this as the building of community capital -- capital that will fund Round Rock's most pressing needs today, and forever.
