The Rotary Club of Round Rock Creates the Children of Fallen Soldiers Fund with the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation
July 30th, 2007 - With hearts focused on the children of Central Texas who have lost a parent in the war on terror, the Rotary Club of Round Rock , a local civic group comprised of 76 business professionals, facilitated a $7,500 gift to the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation towards the creation of a Scholarship Fund last week.
This isn't the first time the Rotary Club of Round Rock has shared its success with the community. They raise and distribute over $30,000 annually to support local causes.
The Children of Fallen Soldiers Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to children who have lost a parent in the war on terror. With help from Congressman John Carter, 15 Central Texas children have been identified as potential recipients. The soldiers were all from Ft. Hood, and their families still reside in that area. The goal, under Children of Fallen Soldiers is to provide each child with a $25,000 college fund when they turn 18.
According to Nancy Rabb, owner of Wag-A-Bag and the Foundation's Board Chair, "The Greater Round Rock Community Foundation is proud to partner with Rotary in this effort. What a noble way for the community to recognize the ultimate sacrifices of our fallen soldiers."
Working with the Gold Star program at Fort Hood, the names of eligible children will be passed on to an advisory committee of the Foundation and the final recipients determined. "Each year, the club searches for opportunities to reach out into the community and make a difference in the lives of others, said, Landy Warren, the Immediate Past President of The Rotary Club of Round Rock. The theme of supporting our troops in some way kept rising to the surface, which led to the vision for this project."
The Children of Fallen Soldiers Fund will benefit from the Foundation's investment expertise and from being part of a larger, professionally managed portfolio. The Foundation will handle all administrative, as well as investment responsibilities for the fund, freeing the organizers of the Fund to concentrate on the mission at hand.
