John Corley Nelson

The Nelson family's connection to Round Rock dates back as early as the 1850's when John's great-grandfather, Andrew J. Nelson, emigrated from Sweden and settled in Williamson County with his family.  The early Swedish settlers made significant contributions to the Round Rock community during its infancy, and current members of the Nelson family seek to continue this legacy.

John graduated from the University of Texas in 1990 with a BBA in Business and Texas Tech University with a joint JD/MBA degree. After practicing law with the firm of Armbrust & Brown, John returned to the real estate business in 2000 to work with his father, the late Tom E. Nelson, Jr.  John has worked to carry on Tom's business, Nelson Investments, since 2005 and lives in Austin with his wife Kristen and three young children: Jack, Mary Caroline and Andrew. In addition to the Greater Round Rock Community Foundation, John and Kristen are involved with the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Good Shepherd Episcopal School and the Seton Family of Hospitals.

"A community foundation provides individuals with flexible alternatives for giving back to the community. It can provide many of the same benefits of a private foundation with increased simplicity and efficiency.  I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to help positively impact Round Rock''s future through the Foundation's support of a broad spectrum of local charities and building of a permanent endowment fund."
